IMPORTANT UPDATE: Missing Financial Statements

Friends, neighbors, and supporters,

I’m reaching out with an update on the status of the 2nd Quarter Financial Report due from the administration on August 1, 2024.

Unfortunately, the administration did not provide the second quarter financial report to the city council by the August 1 deadline. These reports are critical for the council to understand the status of our budget, including spending and revenues, and how each department is functioning. Since the start of 2024, the city council has not received any accurate financial information from the mayor’s team.

I continue to worry about the lack of transparency from the administration, their inability to produce these critical documents, and capacity to accurately track the city’s budget. The city comptroller job is still vacant, and it is unclear how long this critical position will be unfilled. Each day that passes with this position vacant brings more uncertainty about the long-term health of our budget and finances.

The mayor must hire a qualified candidate for city comptroller immediately and return her focus to projects that directly benefit Troy families, including:

  • the citywide lead pipe replacement program;

  • a new swimming pool and new fire station in Lansingburgh;

  • upgrades for the City Water Treatment Plant; and

  • investments in city roadways and other critical infrastructure.

Keeping taxpayers and residents informed about city spending and the status of our budget remains a top priority as your Council President. I will continue to push the administration to meet their fiscal responsibilities required under the charter.

Onward,

Sue Steele

Council President
